Company Profile
Founded in 1998 by four PhD students at U.C. Berkeley, Spatial Informatics Group (SIG) provides integrated GIS, planning, scientific and economic consulting services. From delineating habitat areas, to mapping landslide zones, to analyzing demographic trends, SIG solves spatial problems, using the latest digital geospatial computing technologies. SIG has the technical skills to take on any GIS task, from map production, to spatial analysis, to designing custom web server applications.
Our Experience
SIG has conducted cutting-edge GIS, scientific and economic analysis for clients in a variety of fields. The following are some of the companies and organizations we have conducted work for:
SIG's consultants have conducted a wide range of specialized tasks including:
- Mapping and modeling soil erodability and soil water recharge at the watershed level
- Conducting spatially explicit valuation and mapping of ecosystem services in several states and at various scales
- Assessing the potential effects of development on ecosystem services
- Spatial segmentation of housing markets
- Spatially-explicit analysis of the effects of environmental amenities and liabilities on property values
- Spectral and object-oriented classification of remote sensing imagery
- Creating digital interactive landslide hazard mapping tools
- Multi-scale land cover mapping
- Off-shore habitat mapping
- Creating visualization tools in support of a distributed power generation planning process
- Land use change detection
- Analyzing biomass supply for the potential installation of cogeneration plants
- Developing a spatial fire hazard mitigation decision support tool
- Analyzing transit spatial patterns of transit ridership
- Urban growth simulation modeling
- Producing map layers for a third party "green" planning process to determine which unincorporated areas should be recommended as off limits to future development because of environmental or resource constraints
- Developing fire management plans for several State Parks
SIG is a collaborative company that works with partner companies that complement its skill sets. Currently, its two strategic partners are:
