Ecosystem Valuation for Maury Island, WA

In May of 2004 SIG completed a valuation project with Partners Herera Environmental Consultants and Northern Economics, Inc. for King County, Washington. For this project we used the Natural Assets tmInformation System, along with high resolution land cover, bathymetry and acquatic habitat data to assess the ecosystem service value of Maury Island, located in Puget Sound. These values were summarized for the whole island and nearshore habitat, and were also summarized by individual property parcels. Analyses were conducted to determine how aggregate values would change under two scenarios, including a full buildout under allowable zoning and the proposed expansion of a gravel mine.
