SIG developed an urban forest analysis approach that can be used to track avoided pollutant emissions, carbon sequestration and other benefits at the tree or property scales as part of an existing urban forestry carbon registry system for the Sacramento Region. Using field and remote sensing methods, we estimated stored carbon and other ecosystem benefits from individual trees and areal estimates based on canopy cover, and created parcel based summaries and lookup tables for both methods that can be combined with periodic updates using LiDAR, aerial imagery, or field based measures.
