Land Conservation Prioritization and Analysis Tools

These tools can be used to help land managers identify undeveloped tracts of land and assign quantitative values to those tracts based on a number of ecological factors including: number of endangered species, number of endemic species, species, habitat diversity, resiliency to perturbation, uniqueness of habitat type and species assemblage, relative scarcity of habitat type, and linkages to larger blocks of habitat, among many others. Another consideration that can be included is value as open space to human users, which factors in relative regional scarcity or abundance of open space, proximity to road networks and developed areas, size of open space, views and integration connectivity with other regional open space. Finally, another consideration that is considered is market value of the land, the immediacy of development pressures, and local land supply constraint issues. SIG can work with clients to acquire and integrate the desired data layers and then use those data to assess the land supply, identify potential candidates for conservation, and compare the resource values, recreation values, acquisition costs, and opportunity costs for each candidate. SIG can either implement these projects directly for clients or design custom applications that allow clients to do their own scenario analysis.
